William Delbert Gann was a finance trader who developed the technical analysis tools Gann angles, Master charts, Square of 9, Hexagon and Circle of 360. He is well-known for using geometry, astrology and ancient mathematics to do event predictions in the financial markets. Long after his death in 1955, his methods and strategies are still popular among Forex traders.
Gann was born on June 6, 1878, in Lufkin, Texas. His life was very difficult and he didn’t get any formal education during his childhood. His education mainly came from the Bible.
As his father was a cotton farmer, Gann got chances to study something about the material transactions which happens in cotton storehouses. Gradually he determined to build up his life by his own. He started studying about businesses and joined an evening business school. Then he started working for a brokerage company in Texarkana.
When he was 24, he started trading and moved to New York City to work at a Wall Street brokerage firm. But he was never satisfied with the achievements of other traders. He wanted to make his own life better by achieving heights in trading. He then builds his own strategies by observing the errors and mistakes which he made during his client’s trades.
After predicting the panic in stocks and the fall in commodities, Gann made huge profits in 1907. In the next year, he opened two trading accounts with initial investment $300 and $130 simultaneously and made $25,000 within three months from the first account and $12,000 in one month from his second account.
